My essential oil (EO) journey began at a yoga festival when my friend offered me some peppermint oil to freshen my breath.  I also had many yoga teachers using lavender at the end of yoga classes, but I had no idea of the beneficial qualities that EOs contained. I used oils inconsistently for years until I finally bought my starter kit. I researched every oil company and came to the conclusion that Young Living was the best. I was intimidated by my starter kit oils at first. How many drops should I use? Does diffusing oils really get them into your system? Is this all a bunch of hocus pocus that I’m wasting my money on?

I started by diffusing frankincense and lavender every night. And there really isn’t a strict recipe you have to follow…just a few drops of one and a few of the other!  And my husband and I started noticing that we woke up less during the night. If I started to get under the covers without turning the diffuser on, Buddy would get up and make sure it was running! After falling in love with my starter kit oils, I began researching oils that could support my hormones. I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism in my 20s and with Poly-cystic Ovarian Syndrome in my 30s.  Both of these meant that my hormones were all out of whack. Enter Clary Sage oil. The earthy smelling oil that most people can’t stand but that does wonders for the hormones. I started noticing that I didn't even know when my periods were coming because I wasn’t suffering from any PMS symptoms. And the best part of all….four months after working to regulate my hormones, I was pregnant!!

Finding out I was pregnant was amazing, and it also made me realize I needed to be very careful about what I put in and on my body. I jumped on essential rewards quickly so that I could start bringing non-toxic items into our home. I downloaded the Think Dirty app and started scanning everything! So much of what I used daily had toxins and fragrance in it. And the more I researched, the more I learned that those toxins were also disrupting my hormones. Say what!? Download the Think Dirty app and start scanning products in your home—makeup, cleaners (even the “green” ones), toothpaste, deodorant, body wash, shampoo. After you freak out from what you’ve been putting on your body, start to ditch and switch. Young Living makes it so easy!

We ditched all our cleaners and switched to ONE that not only cleans great (I promise, I wouldn’t get rid of our cleaners until I’d tested Thieves cleaner on every surface in the bathroom) and supports our immune system. We ditched our deodorant (it was a smelly detox process), toothpaste, face products, makeup, body wash…so much!  After baby Hattie was born, I realized that even baby products contain fragrance and toxins!  So, Hattie only uses Young Living diaper cream, shampoo, body wash, etc.  Ditching our toxin filled products and switching to natural, plant-based products was a process and we are still working on it. And the cool thing is, I have an awesome group of people who help me make natural and healthy choices. When I bought my starter kit, I gained an awesome community!

And I use my oils for absolutely everything now! They aren’t intimidating at all anymore and I love experimenting with new recipes…I feel like a scientist!!  Emotional support (valor, peace and calming, white angelica), hormonal support (clary sage, dragon time, endoflex), sore muscles (panaway, deep relief, peppermint), immune support (thieves)…I could go on about this all day!  But what I’m trying to say is that I can’t imagine what my body would feel like anymore without these oils!
